I mean yes of course you would want both in a game, but given one or the other, which is better? If they had stuck with NV/3's design philosophy and just given it a lather of paint, while I'm sure Fallout fans would adore it, players like me who started with Fo4 may never have stuck around.īethesda has now done this twice, once with Oblivion -> Skyrim and a second time with NV -> Fo4. does sacrificing RPG aspects in favor of making a linear, more mechanically advanced game that will appeal to a wider audience make Fo4 a bad game? I don't think so. Comparing that to Fo4 is saying cupcakes baked by a 7-year old in an EasyBake Oven can compete in Cake Wars. You can play who you want, say what you want, and quests are so much more fluid. It's your story, where your choices matter. However, when comparing the "RPG" aspect of the games, 3 and NV win, hands down. Heck, Power Armor is incredibly toned down in NV/3 compared to 4. Meanwhile in 3 you dont even have ADS, which is standard for shooters nowadays. It is a better system with better guns, more customization, smoother and more balanced combat, and fun encounters. When it comes to the "shooter" aspect of NV/3 vs 4, 4 wins. Meanwhile I spent 25 in NV/3 combined and it just kinda dropped them from boredom. I have spent 70-some hours in 4 and loved it. I think this finally is what made it click for me. They just pretty much took the rp out of rpg with 4.
